The Wall

from £75.00

The North East of England is well known for its historic landmark, Hadrian’s Wall, which draws visitors from far and wide (this is not it). However, while I was exploring this picturesque region, I came across the stunning Northumberland countryside, which is blanketed in a network of criss-crossing dry stone walls. These walls serve to divide farms and fields that have changed hands numerous times over the centuries, each with its own story to tell.

As I arrived at this captivating location, I understood that depth of field would be the primary photographic element I intended to experiment with. The dry stone wall presented a striking subject that I aimed to highlight prominently, without allowing it to be overshadowed by the background. Therefore, by using a low F-stop, I brought the wall into sharp focus while gently blurring the background.

I was careful not to completely eliminate the background, as it plays an essential role in narrating the story of the UK countryside and its rich North East farming heritage.

Additionally, the simple yet evocative green color palette present in the scene further enhances the connection to nature, resulting in a well-rounded and visually appealing image.
